一日目　6月5日
トイレセッティングの後、ランチのベーグルを口にして、早速カヤック講習。
このキャンプは基本的に毎日カヤックで近隣のヒグマ生息地をいくつか訪れて、痕跡を探したり、その場所の自然を観察して夕方ベースキャンプに帰ってくるというものだ。
After lunch, we began practice kayaking.
Everymorning, we basically kayak to the bear habitats and return the base camp in the evening.

この日はとりあえずカヤックに慣れるため2マイル離れた生息地に向かう。
On this day, we paddled 2 miles to get used to paddling.
使ったのはダブルカヤック。初日のパートナーは地元の自然ガイドで今回のキャンプに講師のサポート役として来てくれていたジュディ。（この後姿）アラスカでのガイド歴27年。

もう60代の彼女だが、その野外経験と知識の豊富さ、愛くるしいキャラクターには脱帽だった。　本当に素晴らしいガイドさんなので、今度彼女に関する記事も載せますね。
It was double kayak. My partner was Judy, who is the co-instructor of this camp. She has been a naturalist guide for 27 years and is in her 60’s. I was impressed by her knowledge and experience, moreover, her sweet character. I will write about her in this diary later.

しまった、、忘れてた。
わたしはパドリング音痴だった。めちゃ下手なんだった。
カヤックは名古屋の波が出るプール（笑）で何回か講習会に参加し、長良川でリバーカヤックもやった気がするが、かぶったヘルメットがデカすぎて前が良く見えず、講習の目的がパドルを持つ講師のマッチョな腕に変ってしまい、動機は不純だし遥かな記憶。　波が出るプールの講習会は、チン（ひっくりかえること）してばかりで、水中でゴボゴボした記憶しかない
シーカヤックなんて初めてだったが、自分のパドリング音痴ぶりも忘れていたし、なんとかなるだろうという持ち前の根拠のない自信で参加した。
I realized that I was the worst peddler. Although I had practiced how to paddle in the artificial wave pool in Nagoya, all I remembered was that I capsized many times.
I was pretty sure that I was the worst paddler.

でもやっぱりパドリングはイマイチだった。パドリングなんて、下手になりようがないが、明らかにわたしのパドルは水をかいておらず。この下手さは、わたしがこの世で嫌いなもの、行けば必ず不機嫌になれるボーリングに匹敵していた。
My terrible paddling technique is almost the same as my bowling.
それでも、アラスカでのカヤックは最高。
自分がアラスカでカヤックをするとは思ってもみなかった。
青い海と空、白い山、水を蹴るパドルの音。白頭ワシの声。
初日にしてもう満足してしまった。
However, kayaking Alaska was wonderful experience. I never thought I could paddle in Alaska. I enjoyed the blue sky and ocean, the trickle sound of paddling and the voice of bald eagle. I was satisfied with nature even the arrival day.


森を軽く散策した後、ベースキャンプで食事。

この日のメニューは、野菜と豆いっぱいのチリソースをトルティーヤみたいなので巻いたもの。見た目パッとしないかもしれないが（初日なのでちょっと遠慮ぎみに取った→日本人魂かも）、味は最高でした。
We enjoyed dinner at base camp. I wrapped chili source contained lots of vegetables. It was yammy.


毎晩こんな場所で焚き火を囲みながらごはんを食べ、その日を振り返ったり、教育の話や、アラスカの自然の話、それぞれのことを話した。
上を見上げると美しい月に、白頭ワシの巣。
これ以上望むものはない。
We made bonfire every night like this. It kept us warm and makes us comfortable.　The location was perfect and we enjoyed chatting.
We discussed variety of topics such as, education, nature and our life.
When we look up, there was a beautiful moon and a nest of bald eagles.
