Elisabeth Amalie Eugenie （エリザベート・アマーリエ・オイゲニー：1837-1898）


幕末の動乱期、1867年11月9日に徳川慶喜が大政奉還をした頃、ヨーロッパでは何が起こっていたのでしょうか。

1866年にオーストリアがビスマルク率いるプロイセンに大敗した結果、ハンガリーに独立の気運が強まり、エリザベートがフランツ・ヨーゼフ皇帝を説得し、ハンガリーにも主権を与え、フランツ・ヨーゼフ皇帝がオーストリアとハンガリーの皇帝に就任する、オーストリア＝ハンガリー二重帝国が1867年に成立しました。


そして1873年5月1日-10月31日の間、ウィーン万博が開かれ、明治新政府も出展しましたが、世紀の美女エリザベートを一目見ようと、新政府の政治家・役人達がエリザベートの追っかけをしていたのが記録に残されています。
