Sleepless Peru
I was going to wake up at 6 a.m., in order to reach a place called Vischongo. It has some ruins from the Inca period, a thermal bath and stunning views. However, it is about 4 hours from Ayacucho town. Therefore it is essential to start early, in order to come back to Ayacucho on the same day, as I have to get on a bus to Lima tonight.
But what have happened on me was that, I overslept.

Ayacucho Peru
The last journey has begun.
Peru is a huge country so when you have 4 days to spend, you have either too much choice or no choice. The distance between Lima and other famous places are always great. In fact I spent 11hours to get here; Ayacucho.

Trekking in Zarate with "Aire Puro" Peru
Went to a trekking (or "tramping" in New Zealand term) with an outdoor group called "Aire Puro" (Pure Air - www.airepuro.org ) for the weekend. And I was asked to write a page about our experiences. Here is the copy I have just written.

Meeting Peru
Someone called me yesterday. His name is Luis, who I had met in Italy in September 2001. He is from another city of Peru, but nowadays he studies at La Molina University in Lima. And we can meet up this Friday afternoon... how exciting!
It's already 30 minutes to the meeting time, but I'm at an internet cafe. Well it's OK, in Peru the meeting time can be +2 hours...

Rice and Peru (or Peru and Rice) Peru
Peru is a famous country. But who knows what the food is like? Well, it's Rice.
Every single main course is served with plenty of rice, except for pasta dishes. And in the north people have rice for breakfast...it's like a paradise for us: Japanese.
In fact Peru has had many Japanese immigrants. But did they bring that rice-eating custom from Japan? Or Peruvian rice consumption attracted them? You never know...
余談だが、ペルーといえばコメである。コメは１５０年ほど前にアジアから輸入され、栽培されるようになったらしい（うろ覚え）が、今ではペルー全土コメだらけである。ここリマでは一日二回はコメが出るが、北部では朝昼晩三食全部米飯だった。
ジャガイモの原産地はここペルーのアンデス山脈でだという話を知っている人も多いだろう。それは本当の話で、スペイン人到来以前のアンデスを支えていたのはジャガイモだった。今でも山間部ではジャガイモが一番重要な作物だ。しかし、現代のペルー人はジャガイモを使って作ったシチューのような料理を、皿いっぱいのご飯の横に盛って食べるのが習慣となっている。
１００年前の日本からの大量移民のせいでそうなったのか、それとも美味いコメがたくさん取れる方日本人が来たのか。事実は謎に包まれている。

It is a souvenir from the North. On a wooden plate it is written:
"Why do I prefer a beer to a woman"
Because it does not speak.
Because it is a real blonde.
Because it is cheaper.
Because it does not have parents.
Because the colder it gets, the better it gets.
Because it is easier to keep.
Because it can be shared.
Because I could have more than one at the same time.
I bought 2, one for me and the other for the friend of mine. Both of us have been sinlge for a while, by the way.

Adios, El Norte: last shopping Peru
Decided to go back to Lima this evening, as I have only 10 days left. Someone once said to me; "holidays are never long enough". It is true, certainly.
「休みはいくらあっても足りない」と言った人がいたが、まったくそのとおりである。もう１０日しか残っていないので、リマに引き上げることにした。今日の晩八時、リマ到着は翌朝八時。
というわけで御土産を買いに行くことにした。

Tucume (2) Peru
I visited this site on the 2nd day in Chiclayo. They were great, but there were so little information given, And the piramids were not open- you can climb up but nothing can be seen inside.
There supposed to be more things inside, yet not discovered. Just like any other piramids that are not known by tourists. They need the money to do it.
自分がトゥクメを訪れたのはチクラヨについた翌日だった。しかしこれがまた厄介なことに、矢鱈広い上に説明がほとんど無いのである。一応ピラミッドの上には登れるが、中をのぞくことは出来ない。
ペルーの考古学の遅れはしばしば指摘されるらしいが、これには諸説ある。まずは、国全体が財政難であるということ。それに対して、ほとんどの遺跡はすでに盗掘されてしまっているから、ということである。どっちも正解だと、自分は思う。国が財政難でなければ、ある程度の盗掘は防げたはずだろうから。

Tucume Piramids Peru
Tucume is another archeological site near Chiclayo. It is large and dry, like a desert.
北部、チクラヨから北にしばらく行くとトゥクメという場所がある。ここにはインカ時代以前のピラミッドが２８個、残っている。トゥクメの遺跡は砂漠のような場所の真ん中にあり、敷地はやたらと広い。

Sipan (4) Peru
Actually I have already been to the Lord Sipan Museum. It is very new, just a few years old. It is extremely organized and beautiful inside, full of large gold objects and mummies. However, it is not allowed to take any pictures.
