I understand that the Americans wanted to end the war early and to prevent further misery on both sides by dropping the A-bomb on Hiroshima. They could not be satisfied with just occupying Iwo Jima.

Did they have to drop the second one on Nagasaki?

　今さらのごとく思い出したのですが、8月9日は長崎の原爆記念日なのですね。8月6日の広島原爆記念日は新聞の一面を飾ったのですが、8月9日には長崎関連の記事がなかったような気がします。
　時間の経過とともに、忘れられていくのですね。しかも、二番目だから忘れられやすい？

　「どいつもこいつも原爆と言えばまず広島を話題にする。結局長崎は格下扱いかよ？」
　昔、長崎出身の知人がそのようにぼやいていました。

A former best-selling novelist has just passed away.

Her eventual sufferance from the burnout is just a painful reminder that it is just that tough to continue writing novels everyday. I do imagine that she had had to deal with excessive stress. I could hear her call of distress.

Nonetheless, she has undoubtedly paved the way. She has savored the moments of success.

Even though this sounds like an old cliche, I want to say that her creative legacy (even though she ran out of it rather quickly) is here to stay.

　「なんて素敵にジャパネスク」で一世を風靡(ふうび)した氷室冴子氏が、逝かれたそうです。

　彼女は時代を築き、その時代に呑まれました。早過ぎるデビューが致命傷であったとも聞きます。小説家のデビューは遅過ぎるくらいがちょうどいいのかも知れません。

　こうやって時代が過ぎてゆく。なんだか悲しいですな。しくしく。

Do imagine having to be locked up in a dungeon and be incestuously raped repeatedly for 24 consecutive years. This kind of atrocity can bring countless people into tears.

　24年間の監禁ですか？しかも、近親相姦ですか？新潟県柏崎市のあのおぞましい事件がかすむとは。
　ただ、18歳になってからの24年間と10歳からの（多感な10代の）9年間では、単純に年数だけの比較が成り立つかどうかはわかりませんが。

　何はともあれ、世界中が狂っています。ここで私が立ち上がって世界を変えようとすべきなのでしょうか？

I am representing my own version of March Madness. This mental instability obviously shows my internal (infernal) sadness.

　この時期、何だかイライラしがちです。周囲の人々に怒鳴り散らしておりますし。春の陽気は、私の精神状態を非常に不安定なものにしてくれるのでしょうか？本当は春の到来を祝福すべきだと言うのに。

　その言い方、かなり私の神経を逆撫でするんですよね。しかも尾を引くし。
　自分のことを何様だと勘違いしているのですか？調子に乗らないでください。

I understand that it is extremely tough to please the nations (Red Sox Empire and Japan) that he is supposed to represent. The occasionally dicey one did okay for the one playing under immense pressure and pitching in a very different league for the first time.

However, I do not want him to feel content. I have heard that he knows the agenda.

If he is content with his 2007 season, then he is using the gigantic contract as a fraudulent crime. I do not want the contract to descend to the act of treason.

He is yet to reach his MLB prime. I expect him to rival the accomplishment of Josh Beckett next season. I expect him to turn the team into his New England hacienda.

　いろいろとありました。けど、15勝したし、世界一の球団に貢献したし、圧力に屈しなかったし、最初の年にしては上出来だったと思います。
　が、しかし。
　あえて苦言を呈させていただきますが、それで満足するようではあの大金を正当化できませんし、赤靴下帝国の愚民、じゃなくて人民たちは納得しないでしょう。もっとも、彼は満足していないそうですし、来季に向けての課題を把握しているそうですので、大丈夫だとは思いますが。
　来年に期待しましょう。私の予想は20勝以上。今年のJosh Beckettに対抗しそうな気がします。

Nothing feels better than cat's facial cheeks. I cannot live without feeling them for weeks.

　今日は天気がよかったからか、職場の近くにある葬具屋の猫が珍しく外に出ていました。
　手を差し伸べてみたら、猫のほうから近付いてきました。猫のほおずりって気持ちいいですね。幸せな気分になれます。

Talentless losers have relied way too much on high tech.
Stupid consumers have accepted lip synch as a form of art.
I do not think that the choice is very smart.
That has produced too many singers who cannot sing.

I would much rather listen to a stinkbug's fading fart.

　日本の芸能界だけではなかったのですね。いや、日本のアイドルでもあそこまでひどいのはいないでしょう。「句点で終わる朝の集団」の方がまだましだったりして。たとえ歌唱能力が特筆すべきものではなくでも、一応lip synch(口パク？)などと言うプロ意識が欠落しているとしか思えないような行為に走らないらしいし。

　どこの国のことだとは言いませんが、だいたいlip synchを受け入れてあんなシロウト芸じみたものにカネを出す消費者に問題があると思います。（元凶はMadonnaか？）そうやって求める基準を下げ続けた結果がlip synchもまともに出来ない壊れた人形ですかい？目も当てられません。はっきり言って痛いです。

　もう終わったのでしょうか？何が？いや、まあ、いろいろと。
