61th anniversary of Article 9 of the Constitution 分類なし
May 3rd was the 61th anniversary of the enforcement of the current Constitution that was imposed by the GHQ led by General MacArthur.
It is very likely that the U.S. thought that "Soon after recovery of its independence, Japan will revise the Constitution and abolish Article 9 in order to rebuild national forces."
I mean, perhaps, the U.S. considered the current Constitution as a temporary one during Japan was under its occupation.

Article 9 says -- Japan renounces war as a sovereign right and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes, and refrains from maintaining "land, sea and air forces as well as other war potential.
This is really a beautiful rethoric. But the ideal is an ideal, reality is another issue.
We must realize that real world is neither utopia nor paradise. We must descriminate ideal from real world.

It is sad that many Japanese are still brainwashed and believe that "it is due to Article 9 that Japan has enjoyed peace since the end of the WW2," for your ref.>"Article 9 hailed on Constitution's birthday"
The reality is far from that. Peace in Japan for more than 6 decades is the presence of the U.S. forces stationed in Japan.
In other words, it is because Japan has been under the roof of the "pax Americana."

Some argue that "Article 9 should be firmly maintained because revision of that could ignite new arms race in Asia, for your ref.>"Nobel Peace Prize winner hits moves to change Article 9"
But it is nothing more than a sophism.
The reality is, even though Japan has firmly maintained Article 9, China is rapidly building up its military forces. Not to mention, China has many nuclear-warhead tapped ballistic missiles.

North Korea is a almost failed country so that it is not a threat for Japan. But at the same time, we should recognize well that the North is still progressing development of nuclear bomb and ballistic missile.
Even worse, the North is selling its arms and military technology to acquire foreign money.
It means that the North itself is not threat, arms and technology proliferated by the North could be a serious threat for Japan.

Not to mention, even though many Japanese nationals don't recognize that, South Korea is building its arms up rapidly taking "hypothesis enemy Japan" into consideration.
Some argue that not only Japan but other Asian countries should adopt similar policy measures, for your ref.>"Article 9 conference calls for spread of pacifism in Asia"
I also admit that their ideal is beautiful. But at the same time, I have so say that their argument is nothing more than an empty talk and armchair argument.

Do they really believe their idea is realistic? Do they really think other countries will adopt article 9-like constitutions?
If they are serious, they should say "
I renounce home-security as a personal or family right and the install or use of home security devices as means of securing safety, and refrains from maintaining door and gate- locks as well as other home security systems" and execute their words.

If someone say and execute that, then argues to spread Article 9 spirit around Asia, I believe them and accept their seriousness.
But if they lock their houses for the sake of security, they must be jerk and foolish.
Here, I am sure that the reality is that such people who insist that Japan should firmly maintain Article 9 doubtlessly lock their houses to secure personal or family safety. Whey they can't execute the spirit of Article 9, why they think it can be executed at state-level?

Namely, they are hypocrites or just jerks. And they are nothing more than fanatic peace fundamentalists who are under "peace-at-any-price mind-set."
They fail to recognize reality exactly and in detail. We Japanese should realize that Article 9 is nothing more than "A paper doll to which Japanese children pray for fine weather."
It has nothing to do with preventing rainfall and keeping good weather.

In this context, Japan doesn't suffer rainfall in name of the "war" because Japan has an umbrella of the Self Defense Forces and roof of the U.S.-Japan Security Pact.
It is norm that people who believe that "we doesn't suffer rainfall in name of 'war' thanks to 'a paper doll to which Japanese children pray for fine weather in name of Article 9" accuse pre-war militarism.
But objectively speaking, they can't laugh at people at that time.

I agree that Japan in the early 20th century was infected with unrealistic militarism and so called "empire sense of history." But current excessive pacifism is also fanatic and unrealistic.
Only difference between them is a direction of vector of insanity.
The reason why they have been able to enjoy daydream of peace-at-any-price mind-set is the U.S-Japan Security Pace, in particular the U.S. forces has been stationed in Japan since the end of the WW2.

In other words, Japan doesn't need to revise the Constitution as long as the U.S. is unshakable hegemony.
But given the fact that bold decline of the U.S. hegemony is unavoidable due to the failure of the Iraq war, now is the time for Japan to break the cocoon of the daydream of peace-at-any-price mind-set and revise the Constitution.
We should recognize well that "a paper doll to which Japanese children pray for fine weather is nothing more than a soothing."

How many young Japanese would be willing to fight for their country given the culture of war guilt? I have heard a poll found less than 30% of youth would defend Japan against attack.

A country with no will to fight and unable to fill ships and tanks does not even have the option to defend itself the way North Korea could.
